252-264 Huntington Development

252-264 HUNTINGTON AVENUE BOSTON, MA

about the project

252-264 Huntington is a proposal to redevelop former university property along Boston’s Avenue of the Arts, while saving the 890 Huntington Theater at 264 Huntington Ave, known recently as the Boston University Theater.  In an effort to provide a significant community benefit and in conjunction with the adjacent redevelopment, the development team, The Matteson Companies and affilate QMG Huntington LLC gifted the Theater to the Huntington Theater Company in perpetuity, for $1.00.  QMG proposes to demolish the existing structures and construct a new mixed use building on the two adjacent parcels, 252 and 258 Huntington Avenue for a 32 story, up to 426 residential unit building with 7500 square feet retail/restaurant use and 14,000 square feet of cultural space to be shared with the Huntington Theatre.

The Huntington Theater Company, operating the 1905 historic theater, first named the Jewett Repertory theater, will continue its operations and engage in a capital campaign to raise money for the comprehensive renovation and modernization of the Theatre.  The gifting of the Theatre will allow the focus of the fundraising to be entirely on the construction cost, with no land or building cost.
